The name Serawak conjures a mystical image of a forboding dark jungle, enveloped in thick mist that would not go. The thick, green tropical rainforest crawling with an untold number of exotic insect species in a dank underworld reminds me of a scene from KingKong where giant insects gobble up unwary adventurers headfirst. The local denizens whose ancestors were ferocious headhunters would be our host for the next 3 days. Danger lurks everywhere now.

At this time of the blog, I have not gotten nor pack my gear for the trip. My only preparations for the moment is to get more intimate with the tweakings on the camera. Indeed there was more to be learnt about the settings on the camera. Until the band outing, I had thought the camera settings was pretty much covered There was more but I thought I knew was sufficient. Indeed, I was proven wrong.

The experience of resetting the ISO settings, changing to manual mode and an incredible find - offfocus point setting on the camera was like acquiring an entirely new camera all over again. The pics of the podplant at the house balcony never looked more dramatic and picturesque (unless later discoveries prove otherwise).

Armed with 3 functional 1GB cards I would be off tomorrow morning to the native jungles of Serawak. First National Geographics assignment (for me) in a jungle (with cam settings). The podplant pics are just the preliminaries. Think I would be spending tonight going through my National Geographics collection for inspiration and good vantage angles.

I would need to open up an entirely new collection after this trip , in fotopages, to share what spectacular sights seen and emotions captured.

The more I blog, the lesser time there will be to pack up. I've to leave now. ;>

Been listening to NeYo until this one came along.

Been a bit unfocussed this past 2 weeks since the arrival of the new monitor. Been engaged in independent design work since then. After the great photo outing last week at the stadium, been doin more independent photo design works. 3 banner projects to be done to get 'em off my back.

Goin Serawak next week for school camp flly sponsored by the school. Just need pocket money to buy blowpipes to shoot down the kids in case they run off into the forests. Last minute changes to itenerary and now an attachment with Serawak convoy. Hope to feed 'them' to the headhunters in case they become too much to handle. Photos from trip? We'll see. Stayin in a longhouse. First National Geographic assignment overseas. ;>

Been a nice, quiet Term 2. Lots of holidays with pockets of MCs ... Labour day was 2 mins ago.

In case youre asking about the countdown banner, well not that Im overly anxious about heradling 2007 too early, rather it's also the countdown to the end of the BOND! Free at last!

I dunnow why Im starting to blog again. Either its that new year resolution that itches one to pen down whats to be done or the inspiration from the marnkiequeen banner I created for karenn (marnkiequeen) for her troubles taking photographs at the N-results. The blog has been devoid of recent photo updates simply because I havent gotten fixed my quitessential camera, hence no photos. I need to slow down a bit. Doin too many things for 2005. So with the long absence of the camera, Life has settled to the long monotony (though very much appreciated) one month plus holidays.

And the developments around me has been rather personal that it affects my mood hence I refrained from writing lest I write more than I should. Of course it'll be juicy stuff for you readers, but since I discovered this blog can be traced from all over... it's not too convenient... even my 12-18 year old cousins are reading this! Now wheres the fun in that?! To appease the writing bug(writing has become essential as breathing these days) I would perhaps start another one in a narrative in 3rd person format to make the writing more interesting... about me of course... maybe in an alter-ego. Of course... the address will be invite only... problem... need to write but cant write because of publicity...

I was placing my colleagues in the respective Hogwarts houses with the assistance of the self-proclaimed Hupplepuff Linda, our obsessed admin manager. Was fun but couldnt find any Slytherin women amongst the crowd. So we decided that any women with curly hair (snake lookin) would best suit the Slyterein profile. But it was hard convincing myself that a sweet, cheruby colleague with an infectuos smile and styelised brown curly hair. (Try putting your classmates colleagues in the various Houses - dammm fun. She was a confirmcase Hupplepuff. Maybe I'll just be cheeky enough to use the OTAS (OPtical Assessmen Sheet - you shade it) form sometime soon to have fun and get sample survey at the next staff meeting to get a common consensus on the staff populace. This will be fun. Why the sudden madness for anything Hogwarty(Movie 5 is not coming out anytime soon)? Been spending nights reading and reading and reading and reading the book to kill time at first which started out as a comparison exercise with the actual Movie4 (Goblet of Fire, most recent)... then accidentally read Book6 (Halfblood Prince)instead of Book5... then had to reverse so now glued to the saucy Order of the Phoenix a.k.a Book5 (readers be warned)... those familiar with the text you already know what I mean. The Imperius Curse, The Crutacious Curse... whatever curses...hex, divination, bassilisk, Inverso, broken, the golden snitch, Hermoine Grrrranger, Draco Malfroy, Quiddich, Gringotts, Floo powder... took a HArry Potter trivia test once...failed miserably .... try me now!!! Sad thing is I cant find a single Harry Potter DVD around the house to make the Hogwarts experience more graphical.

Of course examining the enchanting (addictive perhaps) writing style which makes me wonder if it would inspired me to write if the first Harry Potter book came out when I was still in school... maybe I would have turned out more articulate... alas (but good also) I was captivated by the magic of Arithmancy... Arithmetics I mean... think it was more like Quadratic Equations that had me started in Math...was it Set Theory... before the MathMagus in me was unleashed.

Ok will try to get the camera fixed as soon as possible. Im happy with job specifications next year which upon close analysis reveal that I could leave school earlier than a normal day for the past 2 years. With the changes in leadership and host of people out to prove themselves at Hogwarts... I mean Springwarts...

Will start the year with my core competencies first. Fundamentals in place. Then move on... more cautiously this time.. but not too cautious... there are enormous risks to be taken next year... but as with all great risks... comes greater rewards. No Dobby the House-elf to warn or Sandy snake to fortell future.

2005... well honestly... has been a bad year. There are many lessons to be learnt and mistakes never to be repeated. With the clock ticking just 2 days to go... I dont think I am ready to move into 2006 yet. But time... tide... they wait for no man.

Good news came only very late in 2005... in fact last week... but this I shall keep for another chapter in another blog. Trust me ... if this one happens... it'll be BIG... you will be clinging to the edge of your seats not believing a story can be that good. Ambiguous? Yes I am.

But heyy... have a Happy New Year. 2006. Lets make it a great year for everyone. You. And especially me. Wherever we will be.

Yups.. its been awhile since I last blog. Too many scenarios playing in my head. In case you are wondering how Ive been, Ive been fine. I think Im fine.

Was reading carefully the other day ... The bird flu H5N1... and sadistically wishing it'll mutate into a human tranferrable version and see what it'll bring to the world. You heard that one about how the dinosours were entirely wiped out by a flu bug? The armageddon comet from deep outer space is just a hypothesis. The flu bug is another - in case you didnt know. Makes you want to pick up Roce stocks since they're the only one supplying the Tamiflu vaccines. When you have time on your hands and you're staying off the grid, you read anything you lay your hands on.

On the verge of Syawal, contarary to popular believe Syawal is not the Islamic new year, it is a month to mark the celerations for the holy month of Ramadhan... I have been good mostly this month... at laest and most imporantly I can tell myself Ive been good.

The holidays are finally in... the kids are out of school... whatever they are up to as with all students on vacation... i dont really care coz whatever advice you dispense to them on holiday time management (because you've-been-there-done-that), whoever listens.... But more importantly MY 2 months... one of the most important perk of this job (plus the one in June thats 3 months - other than passive income systems this is the only one I know you can get 3 months of pay for suntanning by the beach in Tioman). In the works is a cardio-weights training programme Ive designed myself in consultation with the American MensHealth magazine Ive been analysing of late. The Singapore MensHealth version is a big wuss copycatting articles from its American cousin from previous months. The only thing relevant is the hype on local chicks and their preferences of cucumbers over carrot, which remains irrelevant. The cardio regime has brought more sleepless nights... in a good way... coz Ive been more alert. Im reading more into cardio and its correlation to the happy hormone dopamine. Ive figured I could to a alternate run, weights/swim starting next week when fasting will be over. I just want to see how much this body can go. From the preliminaries, everything is looking good. A here is a one year objective by end 2006 to all this. Thats the morning regime, then the afternoon regime will be more designing and perfecting the resume plus the other webdesign projects on hold. If theres any major changes to be made, then 2006 will have to be it. Why am I writing all these down? Well just in case the holiday planning euphoria and enthusiasm dies down. In my solitude and reflective modes, I even found a new mental mindset to rejuvenate and reinject Life into this seemingly mundane existance (ordinary it is not)... a fundamental and underrated concept thats often overlooked.

I just have to get back at cleaning the room which now I suspect has a self-sustaining ecosystem under my bed. Syawal is in 2 days time... and I want to start from there.

The IntoTheBlue movie website echoes of an an underwater cave with the periodic blip of some metal detecting radar scanning some deepwater find. A very impressive website indeed that had me exploring for some time. If there are sites that need building, they should be built this way. Somewhere deep into the site it writes about this treasure hunter Mel Fisher who spent 16 years foraging the sands of the Florida Keys looking for the sunken Spanish vessel Nuestra Seora de Atocha. And when he finally found what he was looking for - he was USD$400 million richer.... yeah say it one more time ..... slowly this time.... .Four Hundred Million US dollars.... huge lesson to be learnt here - Know What You Want... Know What You Looking For...

16 years would mean that he started in 1988 (assuming report was written in 2003)....2 years before Gulf War (?).... hmmm ... 1991 didnt seem like a time too long ago but technoloy was primitive then.... hmmm ... contraversial here... Internet at least was then primitive... so this guy I figure used actual maps.. lots of trial and errors .... eliminating all possibilties then with the final stroke of luck, he closed in on his treasures.... 16 years in all... fascinating story for a Saturday afternoon at home.

On the cutting edge of technology comes Hi5 and friendster (which I find myself disturbingly engrossed in these days). The kids today use the PCs with so much guile and ease that is truly beguiling and upload almost everything about themselves. To say the world is a smaller place? With these new ptp-linked technolgies - it has. See it almost everyday. These chickos are lucky to be livin in this day and age. I didnt have this technology back then when I was their age. Was a lonelier time then... when most of the only people you knew were the people who went to the same school or played guitar senselessly under your block or the provision shop auntie. Then again someone much much older in his 80s would be sayin the same thing about how lucky I am to have these at my age. hmmmmm.... back to appreciating what you have. It always starts from there. Even the technology we live in today. Ought to immerse myself in it more. Make my millions... then reach for the deep blue.

Wide empty spaces

So I was standing in the middle of the exam room today thinking how to pass the hour of invigilation? Some people I know swear that invigilations are simply a waste of precious time... what more when its like your time taken away watching others being tested. At least for the tested, their minds are challenged and for many, or some, a chance for an improvement in their present lives at some point of time in the future depending on the outcomes of the examinations....

Me being me - the capitalist trapped in an altrusitic job - began to work on how to maximize this time other than daydreaming away. Now standing and walking around, I must confess is really a waste of time... And then it hit me....

BREATHING EXERCISE ...!!!!

What other time can be allocated for than this?!!! So I stood in the corner and went into my deep breathing exercises ...remembering distinctly what the magic ratio of inhale, hold, exhale that was perscribed with my eyes fixed on the seconds hand on the clock... and ...

Whoaaaaaaaa!!!! The effects were remarkably superb... just like Spidey just realising his spidergifts. The breathing was just as the kungfu & taichi Falungong masters would profess about its mystical health benefits.... immediately felt sharper, higher, happier... now more oxygen supply fed to the brains ... hightened levels of alertness.... what more when watching my colleagues walking or some standing with faraway looks in their listless eyes.... and... no signs of heavy controlled breathing (lol!)... I ought to share with em my secrets some day (unless they are reading this) ...

Can't wait for the next invigilation... found a brand, new past-time....

Oh the magic ratio? You do your research... I did mine. Then again you're not invigilating... and that's too bad for you.. which could mean only one thing - no dedicated breathing time for you kimosabe! (lol) ;>

An Unexpected Find

An unexpected find under the bed.

I must have brushed the slightly-larger-than-A4-sized photograph , or rather kicked it, under the bed when I was making room on my bed. Now, how the picture got here onto the blog? Well, for many years now, I've always imagined having a scanner so that I can scan this picture in and then get it reprinted somehow. Thw technology was not quite affordable (for me at least, then again could procrastination) then but I knew it could be done. Someday.. someday...

From time to time, the photograph would be lost under the stacks of paper or math, trivia, photography books in this rooom and then suddenly conjure itself in some unexpected album or large-sized magazine. This is one of the rare few photos I have with me of the school days at Grange Road. Good at times, troubled at others. Times of hope, times of pain.

The rugby team photo is the only one of the team I have despite the countless hours running up and down the hard-baked school field, the punishing circuit trainings. There were times when it rained and playing the game all dreanched was bliss, risking getting fried dead by lightning. We were crazy enough to mask our faces commando-style with fieldmud only to realise later that the mud smelled like fertilizer. Yeah, it brings back nostalgia each time I the photo back especially after long missing periods. A potent reminder that yeah I was part of something that fought against the insurmountable odds and triumphed. We all have ours, maybe for some in tiemto come, but this was mine.

We did things differently. We did it with style, aplomb, cool-headedness, preparedness, never betraying any signs of fear. Confident, never cocky. Like appearing in all blacks, contrary to the traditional green-black-white colors that generations before us dorn had fought to make their final battle at the Padang. Many great stories should be shared here about all the individuals you see in the picture. Perhaps another time, when times are kinder.

Let me conquer my fears and try to remember how it was done. I want to forget the nostaligia for now. Its just that I finally got it scanned with the new scanner-printer and thought it'll be nice to add to the blog. Should fit perfectly framed against the black backdrop of the page accentuated by the sepia tone of the once lost picture, now found.

Is there a meaning to this...? I wonder....

Amazing. See that linear corruption in the graphic. That was from the top banner before I removed it. It has not jolted me into action yet other than replacing it, but the data corruption is disturbing and most unsettling especially with the things going on in my Life. From my expert graphic design opinion it would take someone to manipulate the picture (skew effect?) and then send it back to the server - which would be a hassle on the person's part. Simplest way it got that way is some data corrption on the server and then loaded to my cache - totally bewieldering.

To spare you the technical jargons, it should not have happened. Probability is too small for such an anomaly. But it did. To a banner that becomes a constant reminder of my dreams. Gravely Disturbing.

The week has reached it's midpoint. I have become desensitize by the presence of the week long holidays simply because Ive been attending work for the entire of its duration save tomorrow and Friday. Which will be equally the same.

Normally, I wouldnt be writing abt anything as mundane as it is inspirational but since the blog cant be reloaded from the home PC, I thought what the heck a test blog. The week has been spent on DVDs, and sleep that would not come and more banner designs. Im kinda jaded in doin the same thing over and again. Jaded why? Because its dictated. Herein lies the paradox. No dictation.... would I be doing anything? They very asking of this question distinguishes the me with the 645i (in an alternative Sliders parallel dimensional world) and the present me. Back to the job, since its a repetitive duty that gives some room for recognition (which at this moment I dont f@#$%$@# care), I thought why make it harder on myself - why mess up the filing (then spending time looking for them again) but more importantly why complain? Just get lost if you dont like it. Thats what the mind said. Why stay? Since youre staying deal with it.

We hear lots of things but what bothers us most are the things that we tell ourselves. How we beat ourselves... how we fear the unknown... when we ought to be demystifying the myths...

Some storm brewing up ahead in my Life. The storm has not abated and the waves are crashing harder. The ship is weathered, battered and the sails torn but all these pale in comparison to the captain whose eyes are tired... who locks himself in his cabin... while his ghost ship is tossed in the high winds...

Help I have sought and some good advice have come my way Ive got this past 2 weeks in sorting out the things that have been bothering me.... among those I thank for in troubled hours.

2. Be Thankful For The Things You Already Have... You Don't Even Know If You Have A Good Thing When You Already Have One... You're Always Looking For Something Better... And You Think You Gonna Find It...
3. Face Your Fears, Live Your Dreams
4. To myself, You're such an @$$$$ for making the same mistakes over and over again.... yeah mistakes
5. Don't Hurt Your Mom, Coz You'll Hurt More In The End

Some hurt more than others... because I've caused hurt... because I failed to keep my promises... some because I ran away ... The very same things thats been happening in the past 10 years... all repeated all over again... the fool has not learned his lessons...

I watch my colleagues all caught up in their discussions at work (up to this Fridays event), I just think ... heyyy look chiil out folks... its not that a BIG f@#$^$%^ deal... It pays to be sitting right at the back of the room to watch these adults making a huge fuss about an event that's so punitively trivial compared to let see... organizing the IOC meeting... or UN Geneva summit... but these people are so into the job. Perhaps thats why they're happy. The find meaning in it all. I dont know who's wrong here. Them being sucked in or me being disenchanted.

I hope they are.

Shishamo Horror - Dont Try This At Home Kids

Ever had a Shishamo before? Its a kindof Japanese fish... a long and slender fish, superbly nice when fried or part of mom's home-cooked fish curry. Fish was introduced to the fam some one year ago and mom's been buying it since. YOu can always get some from the omni-have-it-all-mart NTUC stores or even the local adventurous wet market. For the price, it was real steal for such a delicacy.

Horror began past 2am in the morning when I sneaked out of the room for some quick supper bites. There were 2 golden fried Shishamo left from the night before. Mom must have fried some new ones when Dad got home. Naturally, the first thing that I went for was the not-too-warm-by-now Shishamos. The hunger from working at the PC took the better of me. Was a quick and instant meal. Just my luck.

Cold or not - it's was good food.

Perhaps, it was the only food around that made it satisfyingly good.

To the second piece, I added some chilli sauce to some flavour to the fishy but nice tasting Japanese fish.

By the time the gratifying gourmet meal ended, I felt something out of place somewhere behind the last left molar. "Darn, another Shishamo bone episode!", I thought. Similar episodes have occured before where the fish bones had pierced some other part of the molar system. But them having stuck behind the molars can be a tricky situation. Should I let it be, perhaps the gums might just rot from the food deposition. The bone was embedded deep pass the molars snugly close behind it, no reflection off the bathroom mirror could bring it to light. Could feel the uneasiness. Rolling the sides of my tougue, I could feel the fishbone. It was small but remained obstinately lodged in my gums.

Using my thumb and index finger I could not pinch away the fine fishbone now causing a slight swell as all gum intrusions do. The fingers were too fat for the my mouth to perform maneuveres any dentist would advice against. "How now, brown cow??", the mind alliteratively taunted.

I was determine to get this stubborn fishbone out. The thought of visiting the predatory dentist set a bigger shiver than the late night Shishamo scare. In a desperate attempt to free myself from my predicament, I used my two trusty index fingers to perform another dental maneuver that could possibly earned me a dentistry degree. Alas, either I was not too ambidexterous or dexterous or simply had fat fingers, the bone remained coldly lodged. What was worse was that the bone had now become further embedded with all the self-administered dental work going on.

I almost relented but in a last ditch attempt, I summoned my fatter-than-the-index, thumb to scrape roughly the side of my left molar. And there it was. The almost-invisible, almost-colorless, almost-white formidable bone of the Shishamo. The battle was over.

Not thatI have nothing better to do at this hour of the night, but the ordeal needed some of recognition and rememberence that it had to be blogged. There was reflection to be made here. Many reflections I cannot write here.
